En primer lugar, el problema del reconocimiento del embrión, se aborda presentando -con base en las opiniones académicas de especialistas franceses- el contraste de las dos posturas filosóficas clásicas: la sustancialista (la individualidad humana está desde el inicio) y la procesal (nuestra individualidad se conforma a partir de un cierto momento). El contraste se hace desde el punto de vista de la ontología, pero también incluye consideraciones de la biología, la ética y el derecho, la valoración de la ciencia, la tecnología y la sociedad. En segundo lugar, se reconocen las aportaciones de cada una de estas posturas, así como su limitación principal: su carácter absolutista. Finalmente, se intenta comprender desde categorías relativas, propias de nuestra época, la condición decisiva de las células iniciales o stem cells: la totipotencialidad como una dialéctica entre el carácter eterno del DNA y la necesaria intervención del tiempo para que éste se exprese. Desde esta perspectiva, aunque nuestra individualidad se da de alguna manera en el inicio, resulta incomprensible afirmar que desde ese momento existe una persona
Firstly, there´s the problem concerning the two completely different philosophical postures regarding the state of the embryo, basing myself on the opinion of French specialists. On the one hand, we have the substancialist posture. This states that our individuality is there from the beginning. On the other hand, we have de procetialist posture. This states that our individuality is achieved at different moment in our life time. The contrast is henceforth found mainly in the ontological point of view, but it also includes considerations from the values made by science; biology; ethics and law; technology and societies beliefs. Secondly we recognize the contributions made by both postures. Although there is the problem caused by them being extreme opposites. Finally, we are trying to comprehend the subject from relative contemporary categories: The definitive condition of the so-called stem cells. We understand titipotentiallity as a dialect between the DNA´s eternal character, and the necessity of time for the DNA to be expressed. In conclusion, although our individuality is in some manner there from the start, it’s impossible to state that an embryo is already a person
