Este artículo tiene dos objetivos principales, por un lado presentar un breve descripción de una de las actividades de la temporada navideña en Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz y por otro lado reflexionar en torno a una adaptación reciente que se ha hecho a la calendarización de dicha actividad. Retomamos algunos conceptos expuestos por Eric Hobsbawm sobre la “invención de la tradición”, mismos que explicamos brevemente con miras a revisar la pertinencia de dichos conceptos en un caso como este. El acarreo de niños Dios, se lleva a cabo de manera paralela a otras celebraciones de la navidad y se refiere al hecho de llevar las figuras del niño Dios desde el parque central de la ciudad hasta cada una de las casas donde se encuentra su nacimiento. Durante los recorridos, la diversidad de conjuntos instrumentales tocan las pascuas, uno de los músicos entona el pregón y la gente que va caminando responde con los coros correspondientes a cada fecha. Se incluyen breves ejemplos musicales como muestra de algunas formas que pueden tomar la música y canto de las pascuas durante el acarreo de niños
This article responds to two objectives, on one hand we offer a brief description of one of the celebrations during christmas in Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz. The second objective is to explain a recent adaptation which has been done to the dates and the cycle of this celebration. To do so, we revise briefly some of the concepts Eric Hobsbawm has presented about the “invention of tradition” and their relevance to analize a case like this one. The “carrying of the children” is a parallel celebration to other christmas festivities, it means the figure of baby Jesus is carried from the central park of the city to each of the homes where his navitity awaits. On the way to the nativities a diversity of musical groups play the “pascuas” (a type of local carol), one of the musicians sings the verses and all the pople who walk with them sing the chorus, which varies according to the date.
