"The early blight (Alternaria solani) is a disease that strongly affects Solanaceae, damaging mainly tomato plants, causing great economic losses. There are methods of biological control, but these are very expensive and often their mode of action is slow. Due to this, there is a need to use new techniques that allow a more efficient control of pathogens. Nanotechnology emerges as a new alternative solution, allowing to create new tools for the treatment of diseases in plants, as well as the control of pathogens through the use of nanoparticles (NPs). The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the foliar application of Se NPs and Cu NPs in the tomato crop affected by Alternaria solani, to determine the effect on growth, antioxidant capacity and quality of tomato fruits. The severity of Alternaria solani and the yield of the crop were evaluated. The non-enzymatic, enzymatic antioxidant compounds and the antioxidant capacity were determined, this in response to the defense to biotic stress. The high doses of NPs Se + Cu NPs, generated an induction of the activity of the enzymes SOD, APX, GPX and PAL in the leaves, and in fruit the enzyme GPX. As for the non-enzymatic compounds in leaves, β-carotene, chlorophyll a, b and totals were favored and total phenols and flavonoids increased in fruits, in terms of the ABTS and DPPH antioxidant capacity, favorable leaf results were observed. In summary, the application of the NPs generated beneficial effects in resistance to stress by Alternaria solani, increasing the enzymatic and non-enzymatic compounds"
