"Since to obtain the maximum yields in most of fruits, vegetables and crops, pollination by insects is required, usually it is assocíated their low number and inefficiency to the fruit drop and poor quality. Among the agricultura) crop pollinators, the honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are the best known by their efficiency because they improve the fruit quality, the seed yields and they take the flower nectar to produce honey. The cantaloupe (Cueumis melo L.) is one of the crops that require the honey bee concurrence to achieve its potential yield, but few growers use the beehives in their field crops or they use them inadequately. The cantaloupe pollination by the honey bee, establishes several scientific problems, those of which were approached in this work and are the following ones: although the importance of induced pollination by honey bee in the melon crop is recognized, the adequate moment to instail and to retire the beehives in the field crop are ignored; in the cantaloupe crop, irrigation and weed control are hand labor activities that do not allow to place the beehives into the crop, and should be located in the crop periphery to avoid the problems related to the africanization accidents, and it is not known the influence of the apiary distance on the fruit production and quality; under the arid conditions, like those of the La Laguna region, the honey bees that pollinate the melon fiowers, also forage in other wild species and cultivated plants during blooming, wich have not been identified and it is not known if they compete with the cantaloupe plant; although it is known that the melon crop is attractive to the bees, as much for the nectar as for its pollen, the pollen capture and distribution patterns of the bees during the foraging flights through the day are ignored and; it is not known if the presence of bees in the field crops depends on its population density. To answer these scientific questions, five experiments were carried out and their objectives were: to determine the appropriate moment to place and put away beehives during the blooming period of melon crop; to evaluate the melon fruit production and quality related to different apiary distances; to determine the plant species visited by the bees during the cantaloupe pollination and if these plants are competitors of the melon croo; to determine pollen collection pattern of the forager bees and their temporal and spatial distribution in the cantaloupe field crop and; to determine the temporal and spatial distribution of the honey bees in different beehives densities. The results showed that the time where the beehives should be placed and to move away in the cantaloupe crop are the first and the fourth blooming week respectively, and that fruit quantity and quality diminish with the pollination delay. These results reinforce previous information with similar results where the crops yield reduction is the result of inadequate pollinator services. The cantaloupe is the main source of pollen for the pollinator bees, pollen volume basis, and also it has being observed that the plants visited by bees during the crop pollination are of secondary importance. It was also observed that the bees were in the field crop after eight in the morning and that their foraging flights tease at darkening, reaching a maximum bee number during the morning and diminishing gradually their presence in the afternoon, it was also found that the pollen collection has a morning pattern."
