"The study was conducted for evaluation of the effects of prohexadione calcium (P-Ca) and its interaction with the oxidation promoter, benzoic acid (BA) and salicylic acid (SA) in jalapeño pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) var. M on capsaicin, vitamin C and yield. The plants were grown under greenhouse conditions in 2007. Applications were carried out at the stages of: seed, seedling and plant of P-Ca (100, 150 and 200 mg∙liter-1), P-Ca (100, 150 and 200 mg∙liter-1) + benzoic acid (1.00E-06 molar), P-Ca (100, 150 and 200 mg∙liter-1) + salicylic acid (1.00E-06 molar) and water (control). The seeds were immersed for eighth hours in the treatments mentioned above, whereas seedling and plant stages were conducted by spray manually. The applications were done when plants reached four and 10 true leaves respectively. The capsaicin content showed statistic increases in the three stages with P-Ca (100 and 200 mg∙liter-1), individually or in combination with BA and SA (1.00E-06 molar). The content of vitamin C showed a significant increase with the application of P-Ca 100 mg∙liter-1 to the seed. In the case of yield, the results showed significant increases in the three stages with P-Ca (100, 150 and 200 mg∙liter-1) individually or in combination with BA and SA (1.00E-06 molar)"
