"The structure and formation of the Querétaro Valley has been a subject of study since the 1970s, this due to the surface deformations that it has been presenting and increasing over time. The presence of regional faults that pass through the Valley, in addition to the geological provinces, favored the creation of grabens and semigrabens having a structure with areas of weakness.

In recent years we have witnessed the worrying demographic growth of the capital of Querétaro that, together with the increase in the supply of other services, groundwater has increasingly been over-exploited in a disturbing way. This misuse of the resource, together with the irregular basement of the area, have helped to generate differential compactions in lithological units present in the area.

In this work, Gravity Study was applied using the appropriate characteristics to be able to carry out a detailed microgravimetric and topographic survey. Despite the fact that they have previously used this tool, its scope has not been entirely good, leading to the task of monitoring it completely. Three 2D geological-geophysical models were constructed based on the Bouguer Residual Anomaly, with the help of the Oasis Montaj TM software, located in the north, center and south part of the study area with E-W orientations. Gravimetric anomaly maps applying different filters where constructed too, showing different details of basement and sediment cover structure.

Through the interpolation of data of horizontal gradient, static level, sediment thickness, faults and inferred guidelines, it was possible to make a subsidence risk map having some correspondence of medium to high risk with documented fault (5 de Febrero). This map can help and serve as a basis for planning the next infrastructure to be built, seeking prevention and thus avoiding costly remediation."
