Surface gravity waves represent a key process to determine the dynamics of the upper ocean and its interaction with the lower atmosphere. However, there are relatively few observations that could allow us to understand the effect of the waves in the upper ocean boundary layer. This work presents measurements of the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy in the upper 80 m, collected with a free-fall vertical microstructure profiler. Simultaneously, measurements of air-sea momentum flux and meteorological conditions were made using an Oceanographic and Marine Meteorology Buoy (BOMM). Directional wave spectra were computed using the Wavelet Directional Method (WDM). Wave-induced stress was estimated using the quasi-linear theory of wave growth. Air-side friction velocity shows a quadratic behavior with the 10 meters wind speed at neutral conditions. However, the results show an increase (decrease) of the friction velocity as the swell energy increases (decreases), which suggests that the friction velocity is not well modelled solely with the wind speed but the sea-state play an important role and must be included in the parameterisation. The results show that almost 35 % of the wind stress is transferred to the waves. This is expected since swell prevailed under wind-sea waves during the experiment. The more momentum is transferred from the atmosphere to the waves, the more energy is dissipated from the waves to the ocean. Results suggest that when the wave spectrum shows an equilibrium in the high frequency range, an enhanced dissipation rate is observed near to the sea surface. Finally, comparisons of different parameterisations of dissipation rates, indicate that when Stokes drift production term is included in the balance of turbulent kinetic energy, the dissipation rate is better represented when only the law of the wall scaling is used.
