In Mexico does not exist information about the presence of zoonotic pathogenic enterobacteria in small scale dairy farms. In Mexico small scale dairy farms are very important for the familiar economy, but there are no studies about the relation between handling practices and milk contamination in these farms. The main objectives of this study were: a) to characterize the community of enterobacterias in small scale dairy farms, and b) to find possible relations between handling practices and the bacterial dispersion and the contamination of produced milk. A combination of molecular genetics techniques and classic microbiology was used to identify the most abundant culturable enterobacteria species in eight small scale dairy farms from the localities of Tejaro and Cotzio in Tarimbaro, Michoacan. 310 isolates were obtained from milk samples (n=71), udder (n=79), bedding material (n=85) and feces (n=75). The obtained isolates were identified using the partial sequence of the16S ribosomal RNA subunit gene as Escherichia coli (n=196), Escherichia fergusonii (n=2), Shigella flexneri (n=40), Enterobacter cloacae (n=6), Enterobacter hormaechei (n=3), Enterobacter cowanii (n=2), Klebsiella oxytoca (n=5), Brenneria rubrifaciens (n=53) y Photorhabdus luminescens (n=3). The potential risk for cattle and human being health of each one of the identified species is discussed. Using the software DOTUR and UniFrac the 310 sequences were grouped in 60 OTUs, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 19 by farm, there were found farm groups that share the community structure, displaying differences statistically significant between each group of farms. E. coli were the majority population in all studied farms.

The becoming-animal of the feminine subject: Tarazona, Lispector, Braidotti

Francisco Serratos (2021)

The work of Mexican author Daniela Tarazona (1975) shares certain similarities with the work of Clarice Lispector. In a few of their novels, both writers make use of narrative techniques such as inherent oddity and fantasy, particularly in El animal sobre la piedra (Tarazona) and A Paixão Segundo G.H. (Lispector). These works confront the experience of feminine identity from the limits of biology. Their characters undergo mutations that lead them to transgress the psychological, social and biological gender that imprisons them; in order to succeed they must morph into the animal. Using a comparative method, both novels are analyzed through the philosophical lens of Rosi Braidotti, who in turn takes the ideas of Gilles Deleuze on the becoming-animal and becoming-woman.

Background: Depression is a well-recognised problem in the elderly. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with predictors of change in depressive symptoms, both in subjects with and without baseline significant depressive symptoms.

Methods: Longitudinal study of community-dwelling elderly people (>60 years or older), baseline evaluations, and two additional evaluations were reported. Depressive symptoms were measured using a 30-item geriatric depression scale, and a score of 11 was used as cut-off point for significant depressive symptoms in order to stratify the analyses in two groups: with significant depressive symptoms and without significant depressive symptoms. Sociodemographic data, social support, anxiety, cognition, positive affect, control locus, activities of daily living, recent traumatic life events, physical activity, comorbidities, and quality of life were evaluated. Multi-level generalised estimating equation model was used to assess the impact on the trajectory of depressive symptoms.

Results: A number of 7882 subjects were assessed, with 29.42% attrition. At baseline assessment, mean age was 70.96 years, 61.15% were women. Trajectories of depressive symptoms had a decreasing trend. Stronger associations in those with significant depressive symptoms, were social support (OR.971, p<.001), chronic pain (OR 2.277, p<.001) and higher locus of control (OR.581, p<.001). In contrast for those without baseline significant depressive symptoms anxiety and a higher locus of control were the strongest associations.

Conclusions: New insights into late-life depression are provided, with special emphasis in differentiated factors influencing the trajectory when stratifying regarding basal status of significant depressive symptoms.

The German-Tarahumaran dictionary of Matthäus Steffel and the linguistic tipology of the 18th Century

Aarón Grageda Bustamante (2021)

This contribution focuses on a German-Tarahumaran dictionary elaborated in the 18th century by the Moravian missionary Matthäus Steffel and investigates this text as part of the European Enlightment effort to organize the various languages of the world regarding their kinship relation. As is shown, the elaboration of the dictionary, dedicated to an ethnic group of Northern New Spain, has to be seen in the context of broader cientific colaboration common within linguistic studies of the epoque. This colaborative approach made possible the recollection, critique and publication of linguistic information which would, especially in the German speaking countries, lead to the emergence of typological studies.

Intracellular signaling pathways involved in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; molecular targets

CRISTIAN FABIAN LAYTON TOVAR Hugo Mendieta Zerón (2016)

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a malignant disease characterized by an uncontrolled proliferation of immature lymphoid cells. ALL is the most common hematologic malignancy in early childhood, and it reaches peak incidence between the ages of 2 and 3 years. The prognosis of ALL is associated with aberrant gene expression, in addition to the presence of numerical or structural chromosomal alterations, age, race, and immunophenotype. The Relapse rate with regard to pharmacological treatment rises in childhood; thus, the expression of biomarkers associated with the activation of cell signaling pathways is crucial to establish the disease prognosis. Intracellular pathways involved in ALL are diverse, including Janus kinase/Signal transducers and transcription activators (JAK-STAT), Phosphoinositide-3- kinase–protein kinase B (PI3K-AKT), Ras mitogen-activated protein kinase (Ras-MAPK), Glycogen synthase kinase-3b (GSK-3b), Nuclear factor-kappa beta (NF-jB), and Hypoxia-inducible transcription factor 1a (HIF-1a), among others. In this review, we present several therapeutic targets, intracellular pathways, and molecular markers that are being studied extensively at present.
