Welfare from Ethics. A gender perspective
Nancy Caballero Reynaga (2021)
This article aims to address the problem that arises when looking to establish what the welfare is, based on approximations about hedonism, desires, preferences satisfaction, status and Rawls´s primary goods, mainly self-respect. Besides Rawls´s, some ideas from authors like Amartya Sen, Martha Nussman, among others will be taken to guide the reader on reflections that build a theoretical frame that allow to show accepted social behaviors about women´s welfare, but that not necessarily guarantee an optimal life condition for them.

This study´s objective was to examine empirical relationships between three dimensions of time perspective (future, present fatalistic, and past negative) and occupational self-efficacy. By surveying Mexican (n = 286) and U.S. (n = 272) respondents, we also tested the moderating role of culture. Regression analyses revealed that time perspective dimensions have significant associations with occupational self-efficacy, being future time perspective more potent than its past negative and present fatalistic counterparts. Moderation analyses indicated that none of the examined time perspective-self-efficacy relationships varied significantly between the U.S. and Mexico. Overall, this study suggests that relationships between time perspective and occupational self-efficacy vary according to different temporal dimensions, that future TP is key to develop occupational self-efficacy, and that cultural values may not exert a significant influence on the time perspective-occupational self-efficacy connection.

This article offers a critical review of the abusive use of the notion of precariousness in labor studies during the last decades. The limitations of this notion are attributed, among other reasons, to the ignorance of certain currently observable metamorphoses in respect to the attitudes of a category of individuals towards salaried labor. Based on obtained research data from semi-structured interviews and observations from information and audiovisual technology’s entrepreneurs or independents, findings show the limitation of this notion to account working conditions of these professionals, since they relate labor to values different than stability, security and good remuneration, former fordist industrial employment foundations. “Postmaterialist” values such as horizontality, camaraderie, share, autonomy, cooperation, collaboration, etc., shape the vision and relationship of these individuals with labor

Pessimist explanatory style and occupational self-efficacy: A bicultural quantitative analysis
Daniel Arturo Cernas Ortiz (2022)
The aim of this research study is to examine the relationship between pessimist explanatory style and occupational self-efficacy. Also, to assess whether the strength of this relationship varies between Mexico and the United States. A self-administered survey was applied in both countries (Mexico´s n = 282, U.S.A.´s n = 275). Hierarchical linear regression and moderation analysis were employed to test the study hypotheses. The results indicate that pessimist explanatory style has a negative relationship with occupational self-efficacy and that this relationship is more pronounced in the United States than in its southwestern neighbor. On the whole, the findings suggest that unhealthy attributions for negative events have the power to inhibit enactive mastery and, therefore, the development of self-efficacy beliefs in the occupational domain. In addition, national culture could amplify such effect making it more negative in the United States than in Mexico.
