Education and the battle for the conscience. One phase of Church-State conflict in Los Altos de Jalisco, 1917-1940

José Luis López-Ulloa (2015)

To counter-revolutionary ideology, once the armed phase of the revolution of 1910 ended, by the triumph of Constitutionalism, it came a period of struggle for the control of children’s minds; this struggle occurred in the classroom and the enemies of the revolutionaries were the most traditionalist sectors of the country. Parents, supported by the clergy, established an education system parallel to the official one. With it they tried to maintain the control they had on the consciousness of children.
