Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is the most important legume forage for dairy cattle feed in Mexico. The objective of this

study was to assess the productive response of five varieties of alfalfa in cutting intervals defined seasonally. Our hypothesis was that the San Miguelito variety is the most productive among the evaluated varieties. The varieties San Miguelito, Júpiter, Atlixco, Vía láctea and Cuf 101 were randomly distributed in 20 experimental plots of 12¿9 m, in a

completely randomized blocks design with four replications. Evaluations included yield feed, leaf:stem ratio, weight per

stem, stem population per m2, plant population per m2 and botanical and morphological composition. Júpiter and Cuf

101 showed the highest yield (20 275 and 13 350 kg MS ha¿1). Leaf:stem ratio was higher in Cuf 101 and smaller in Júpiter. The weight per stem was higher in Júpiter and lower in Cuf 101.

Evaluación de las características de calidad, bromatológicas y fermentativas in vitro a diferentes tiempos de fermentación láctica de ensilados de mango maduro.

El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar las características de calidad, bromatológicas y fermentativas in vitro de ensilados de mango maduro entre 28 y 168 días de fermentación láctica (FL). Los silos en bolsa (20 kg) se elaboraron con 80.64% de mango, 11.38% de pasto pangola, 4.55% de rastrojo de maíz, 2.04% de melaza y 1.36% de urea. El tiempo de apertura de los silos fue a los 28 (T1), 44 (T2), 97 (T3), 113 (T4), 126 (T5), 140 (T6), 154 (T7) y 168 (T8) d de FL. Se determinó pH, ácido láctico, materia seca (MS), proteína cruda (PC), fibra detergente neutro (FDN), fibra detergente ácido (FDA), hemicelulosa, producción de biogás y metano (CH4 ), nitrógeno amoniacal (N-NH3 ), pH del medio, conteo de bacte rias totales, degradación de la materia seca (DMS) y degradación de la fibra detergente neutro (DFDN). El análisis estadístico fue un diseño completamente al azar.

Con el objetivo de evaluar el comportamiento productivo de 21 genotipos de maíces forrajeros de diferente origen y ver su adaptación en zonas semiáridas en Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, SLP, a 22.22° latitud norte y a 100.85° longitud oeste a 1 835 msnm. En clima seco templado con

temperatura media 17.1 °C y precipitación de 362 mm. En 21 genotipos de maíces de diferentes regiones se evaluó la altura de planta (AlturaP), número de hojas por planta (NHojas), diámetro del tallo (diámetro), altura del primer elote (AlturaE), área foliar de la hoja del elote (AFE), número de elotes (NElotes), Rendimiento de materia seca de la planta (RMS), de hoja (RMSH), de tallo (RMST) y de elote RMSEL, relaciónes hoja: planta (RHP), tallo: planta (RTP), elote: planta (REP),fibra detergente neutra (FDN) y ácida (FDA). El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar con seis repeticiones. El genotipo Tlaha2 mostró el mayor valor de AlturaP con 2.5 m y AlturaE con 1.4 m. Tampiqueño1 mostró mayor NHojas con 13.6. Chalqueño mostró el mayor diámetro con 4.1 cm y mayor IAF con 775.97 cm2 . Papjalb/a, AS948-2 y Gdelfin mostraron el mayor número de elotes con 1.5 elotes pl-1 . Chalqueño y Tampiquelo1 mostraron los valores más altos de RMS con 46 246 y 42 947 kg MS ha-1 , respectivamente.

The objective was to evaluate the in vitro fermentation in silage of ripe mango with pangola grass hay and levels of sugar cane molasses as additive. The treatments were: 0 (T0%), 3 (T3%), 6 (T6%) and 9% (T9%) molasses. The ensilage was fermented for 21 days. Dry matter (DM), pH values, lactic acid, crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber

(NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and ashes (As), partial and the accumulated biogas and methane production, DM degradation (DMD) and NDF degra dation (NDFD) were determined in the ensilages. Variables were analyzed in a completely random design.

The study was carried out in Montecillo, Texcoco, Estado de México, from September 2014 to September 2015. The objective was to estimate the fodder potential of Lotus corniculatus L., with different management strategies, depending on the percentage of light intercepted (LI) and a fixed cut (FC) defined seasonally. The treatments were established in a random block design, with three repetitions. Between treatments, no differences were present in the annual accumulation of fodder, or in the different seasons, except for fall, when the FC yielded 43 % less than the 100 % LI (3,386 vs 5,922 kg MS ha¿1 ). In the botanical and morphological composition, between treatments, only the stem presented differences in annual accumulation.

The treatments were two sizes of seed (large:LS and small:SS). The variables were: emergence (EM), abnormal seedlings (AS), non-germinated seeds (NGS), establishment (ES), viability (VI), speed of emergence (SE), seedling height (SH), and root length (RL). A CRD with 4 repetitions were used. It was observed that, regardless of the size, the EM was higher in perennial ryegrass (p¿0.05), compared to orchard

grass, due to it presenting the highest (p¿0.05) percentage of AS and NGS.

Nutritional blocks (NB) are a supplement strategy for ruminants, and regional food ingredients such as mango (Mangifera indica L.) are included in their preparation. Due to its rapidly fermentable sugars, mango pulp (MP) may be used to substitute sugar cane molasses in the elaboration of NB. The objective of the present experiment was to evaluate the kinetic of gas production in vitroand the fermentative characteristics of the partial substitution of sugar cane molasses (Saccharum officinarum L.) with MP in the elaboration of NB. The experimental design was completely

randomized and the treatments were MP0, MP10, MP20 and MP30, which was the level of substitution of molasses with MP. The variables determined in the sample of each treatment were: dry matter (DM), crude protein, ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF).

Objective: The objective of this research was to obtain the optimum cutting moment of the red clover by varying the

cutting frequency in the spring season. Design/methodology/approach: The treatments were cuts at different ages (eight weeks) in the spring season. The variables studied were: forage accumulation, botanical and morphological composition, foliar area per stem and photosynthesis. The statistical analysis of the data obtained was performed with the GLM procedure of the SAS statistical package. The results obtained in yield of dry matter showed an increase as the age of regrowth advanced, in week 8, 5013 kg MS ha¿1 total were obtained, resulting in the maximum value registered.

La alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) es la leguminosa cultivada más usada para la producción de leche y carne en México, debido a su alto rendimiento y calidad nutrimental. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el rendimiento de forraje y sus componentes en cinco variedades de alfalfa con intervalos de corte definidos estacionalmente. Las variedades Aragón, Valenciana, Chipilo, Milenia y Oaxaca se distribuyeron aleatoriamente en 20 parcelas experimentales de 12 x 9 m, de acuerdo a un diseño de bloques completos al azar con cuatro repeticiones.
